Gene, Paul & Peter

12/06/01) The Recording Academy's New York Chapter honored Carole King, KISS, Linda Moran and Russell Simmons on Dec. 4 at its Heroes Awards held at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. The award recognizes those in the local music community who have made both widespread contributions to the industry.

Recording Academy President/CEO Michael Greene presented the Heroes Award to three KISS members — Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss. Referring to their formidable presence in rock music, Greene quipped, "If all armies were like the KISS Army, we could shut down the recruitment centers." While KISS is well-known for their flamboyant style, Stanley remarked when accepting his award, "We're all nervous because we've never been on a stage like this without makeup."
